so fresh, so clean

i love it when a boy makes an effort in his appearance; it reassures me that there’s still hope for civilization. and ok joey, how cute are you? if all boys dressed like this, women’s lives would be much easier (and more colorful). yesterday was the store opening of dress for the nines, an eco-friendly maternity boutique co-owned by my friend and colleague, allison andrews of apa consulting. so imagine, i’m running straight from lunch, no makeup and hair a mess, and run into this new store (adorable) where allison and joey are standing in their pastel cardigans and groomed to perfection. “i love it!” i say. indeed, the boutique is the answer to a chic mama’s prayers – stylish maternity and nursing clothing/accessories – at an affordable price point. because lord knows what some of this other maternity stuff costs these days. a lot of the collection can be worn stylishly by non-prego women, so after combing through everything (feeling that happy giddy feeling that only shopping can bring), i turn my focus over to joey’s outfit, which is, head-to-toe, boy outfit perfection. is it designer? is it j.crew? most importantly, is that cashmere? all of a sudden, outkast lyrics get stuck in my head. makes me feel like i need a freshening up of my own. so i say my farewells and head immediately over to my threading appointment and then to the dry cleaner’s, where i collect a new dress from alterations that i plan to wear – today, actually. <sigh> feeling better already!
